Dayes Automotive Center believes in cheap auto repair that is quality work you can depend on. If you drive, there's probably little you hate more than getting your car repaired. It's usually an expensive, time-consuming hassle no one looks forward to. We are car guys and we feel the same way – but there are ways to limit this necessary evil. Here are 3 solid ways to save as much money as possible on your car repairs, and hopefully make the whole process a little easier, too.
Find a trustworthy mechanic near you and stick with them.
Good mechanics will be honest and you may not like what they say about the work that needs to be done, the inevitable toll on your wallet, or being out of your expensive—and often only—means of getting around while you wait for the work (and the bill), good mechanics will work with you on what needs to get done first. Stick with the same place and overtime, they will know your cars story and what works specifically for you.
Make sure the mechanic is ASE (National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence) certified.
Locally, mechanics can be certified through the Arizona Automotive Institute in several specialties and categories – ask to see certificates of accomplishment. BBB sites are great references (Better Business Bureau) – you have to be in business for 2 years before you can apply for certification as a business – so you know it is not a fly-by-night operation.
Find a Repair Shop that is not a chain
This is not always true but is true more often than not. Big chains have big overhead – with regional managers, district managers, and quotas. Many of the TV news stings involving under cover reporters have been from managers trying to meet quotas.
Don't underestimate the value of word-of-mouth. Talk to all of your neighbors and tell them where you go – advertise to a local Facebook group, tell your friends and family. There's nothing like first-hand experience to help pick a good mechanic and many shops will give you a discount for referrals. Do not be afraid to ask!
